The Whole World Knows Your Age |
|
|
AT&T publishes the entire country's yellow pages and white pages on the internet. An interesting feature they also offer is REVERSE LOOK-UP where, if you know a phone number, they will tell you who it belongs to! I was recently looking up an uncle's address on the internet when I discovered he must be unlisted, because I got no results. A service was offered on the same computer screen that shocked me. A service called US Search (http://preview.ussearch.com/preview/newsearch) claimed they had address and telephone records of my uncle. And for $10, I could see all my uncle's information including background searches, criminal records and real estate holdings for a few bucks more. As a "tease" to show that they had indeed a record on him, the listed his name (and similar names) HIS AGE, AND HIS CURRENT CITY OF RESIDENCE… FREE. To my surprise, the “partial tease” records they showed were very accurate. When I tested their free offer on others I knew, mixed among the names that were listed were the correct age and city of almost everyone I tried. If you know the full name of someone (middle initials help) and what state they live in, you can easily deduce which person you are looking for and how old they are! Curious to know the age of your boss? Is your friend really only 39? How old do you think your new neighbor is? This site somehow knows. Another site I found: https://www.peopledata.com will also freely publish a person's age, and for a fee, give you their address, phone number and satellite photos. (I assume the photo is of their residence.) I am reporting this because age discrimination is a serious problem when an older person is seeking employment. These two web sites, when used by an employer allows them to secretly look up the age of a job applicant without asking his age on a form and bias a hiring decision. Use of the information these web sites offer is a violation of your privacy. Your age is a private piece of information that others need not know - nor should it be broadcast to the rest of the world. And for an additional amount of money, major chunks of other information can be gained! The PeopleData web site will freely show you the month and year a person was born. Located at https://www.peopledata.com, for $10, this site will also give you the phone numbers, addresses, background checks and satellite photos of where they live. They also claim (for $20 MORE) to be able to give you marriage and divorce information, previous addresses, and possible aliases. Remember… until our country sets up a system that cross-informs each and every state and county with criminal information, these cheap background checks can not be very thorough. I tested the PeopleData site with my own name to see if they knew anything about me. They listed several “John Lykes” in their data base, but they did not have a John Lyke with my correct middle initial. I can proudly say that I have kept a low enough profile and preserved a little of my privacy at least from this company. I hope you can say the same. |
